About the role
The Folkert lab in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania seeks a highly motivated Research Technician to support medical and scientific research.
Responsibilities
- Conduct experiments and enter findings into computer
- Analyze the results of tests or experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, and generate preliminary figures from data generated towards eventual inclusion in a manuscript
- Process samples, including collecting samples from the operating room and processing for downstream applications
- Prepare and ship samples when needed
- Collect blood or tissue samples from patients
- Maintain a detailed log/database of collected specimens
- Maintain and passage cell cultures
- Optimize novel in vitro culture systems, including slice culture and organoid models
- Perform murine tumor transplants, tumor volume measurements, and drug treatments
- Maintain a detailed log/database of collected specimens
- Provide scientific and technical guidance for ongoing projects
- Maintain organized laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety protocols
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies, order supplies, oversee general laboratory maintenance and safety compliance
- Collect and process human blood and tumor specimens and maintain a database of collected specimens
- Collect and analyze data through biological assays and microscopy, including cell culture assays, flow cytometry, and RT-qPCR
- Perform routine animal studies, including tumor and tissue harvests and preparations as well as drug treatments
- Collaborate closely with other lab members and the Principal Investigator on projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- This position is contingent upon grant funding
