Research Technician

About the role

The role consists of fully supporting research laboratory activities, ensuring that the laboratories are prepared for experimentation and are compliant with relevant Health and Safety and other legislative or policy requirements. You will also carry out specialized techniques and train others in these and essential core functions.

Responsibilities

• Preparation and maintenance of cellular, plasmid, lentiviral constructs and viral stocks
• Isolation of nucleic acid and proteins
• Performance of standardised colorimetric assays
• Conducting laboratory activities at CL-2 and CL-3 containment levels, after appropriate training
• Handling of infectious (retroviruses) cell cultures
• Liaising with the Principal Investigator for laboratory purchases
• Overseeing laboratory record keeping through the centralised electronic repository of the lab

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in laboratory techniques like plasmid amplification, basic cloning, cell culture and aseptic conditions
• Proficiency in laboratory calculations
• Excellent organisational abilities, and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

Desirable criteria includes previous experience working at CL-3 containment level and expertise in handling lentiviral constructs or retroviruses.
