Research Technician 2/3 - Night Shift Position

About the role

This position is open for external candidates only to apply. This position will be filled at either the Research Technician 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Responsibilities

  • Handle nuclear material in support of various missions
  • Support other technicians in performing nuclear material handling and measurement activities
  • Meet with team in the morning to identify work tasks, hazards and controls and lessons learned from past experiences
  • Don PPE, including anti-contamination coveralls, booties and safety glasses before entering plutonium facility
  • Work effectively, conscientiously, and professionally in a high-performance team environment
  • Follow safeguards & security procedures in accordance with the Laboratory's Integrated Safety and Security Management (ISSM) practices

Requirements

  • Research Tec 2: High School diploma and 3+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Research Tec 3: Associate's degree and 3+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Requirements

  • Knowledge and/or experience working in hazardous environments
  • Attention to detail in recording measurement results in logbooks and databases
  • Solid understanding of technical concepts, including radiological materials handling, electronic imaging, and materials characterization and testing
  • Ability to perform non-destructive measurements on nuclear material and analyze data
  • Ability to learn and understand various criticality safety postings and handle nuclear material in accordance with postings

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as respirator protection, safety glasses, anti-contamination clothing
  • Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet
  • Free from chronic wounds or chronic rashes which disrupt the integrity of the skin that would prevent safe entry into radiological areas

  • Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2
  • Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level)
  • HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, 712.11
  • 426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job
