About the role
The Jueqi Chen Research Lab, within the Department of Microbiology, focuses on the molecular mechanisms and functionalities of innate immunity and inflammation, using methods in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and immunology. This at-will position is funded by a contractual grant, subject to renewal based on the grantor's approval.
Responsibilities
- Performs laboratory organization, ordering, and record-keeping.
- Aids in preparing common reagents.
- Develops and performs assays.
- Establishes and cultures mammalian cell lines.
- Performs molecular cloning and PCR.
- Performs expression and purification of proteins.
- Carries out cell biology imaging experiments (fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy).
- Works in Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) conditions and animal facilities.
- Collaborates and communicates with other lab members.
Requirements
- Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships, or related work experience (not typically requiring a four-year degree).
- Knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, or microbiology.
- Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biological or Chemical Science preferred.
- Working experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, or microbiology.
Skills
- Basic laboratory techniques.
- Research and analysis under direction.
- Data collection and entry.
- Assistance in data analysis and report preparation.
