About the role
This role participates in planned research projects by performing research protocols with minimal direction and guidance from the principal investigator, program director or senior scientists. May exercise moderate discretion and judgment in the execution and interpretation of experiments, and of data derived.
Responsibilities
- Specimen Coordination: Secondary person for picking up samples from the hospital and clinic. Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and transportation of specimens per established protocols.
- Sample Processing: Process samples using aseptic technique, centrifugation, Ficoll, aliquoting, and freezing. Make media for processing using aseptic technique. Ensure the integrity/chain of custody of samples throughout the processing procedure. Maintain records of processing outcomes.
- Sample Storage: Oversee storage and management of specimens, including cryogenic storage. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of specimen storage using a LIMS.
- Perform research procedures on experimental samples with minimal supervision. Formulate and perform complex lab experiments and analyze/report the data. Perform tasks that require knowledge of advanced techniques and lab equipment. Perform advanced calculations and maintain appropriate log and lab notebooks. Assist with planning specific research protocols and procedures. Assist in development & troubleshooting of new techniques and ideas. Modify scientific methods and protocols (in conjunction with PI). Check others' results for completeness and accuracy. May be responsible for training and mentoring new staff. Assist in the preparation of grants, journal articles, posters, and oral presentations. Perform routine and non-routine tests/experiments as needed. Maintain office, lab area, reagents, supplies, and equipment. Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment. Coordinate schedules of tests & procedures. Conduct literary searches as required.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
- At least two (2) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Required
- At least three (3) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Preferred

SALARY RANGE: $47,020.00 - $58,780.00 Annually
