About the role
A full-time Research Laboratory Manager position at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center is available in the Stewart laboratory in the Department of Clinical Studies.
Responsibilities
- Molecular analyses of tissues, including immunoassay techniques, PCR, sequencing, flow cytometry, tissue staining (including fluorescence)
- Tissue culture, including protocol development and optimization in species of interest, and cell line preservation
- Tissue harvest/collection and preparation for ex vivo studies, histology, or other analyses (-omics, sequencing, etc.) from cadaver samples
- Collation of acquired data, graphical presentation, and limited analysis
- Laboratory management and administrative tasks, including supervising individuals working in the laboratory environment, ordering supplies, generating invoices, etc.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a laboratory setting, with a documented record of successfully executing a variety of research-related tasks, is required.
- The candidate should have excellent organization and time management skills--including the ability to develop and maintain a schedule for expected productivity and be able to manage and oversee projects, including grant work, within a specified time frame.
- The candidate should be able to operate independently within a laboratory space and should be able to develop standard operating procedures for research within the field of interest.
- The candidate should have independent competency in the listed research tasks, and they should be motivated to seek additional support and training when experience is limited.
- The candidate should demonstrate resourcefulness by utilizing the research network available at New Bolton Center and within the University of Pennsylvania.
- The candidate should be able to supervise and mentor other professional students (veterinary residents, students, and fellows) working within the laboratory.
Requirements
- Research Specialist B: Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Research Specialist C: Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Skills
- Highly motivated with a high level of competence and prior experience in cellular and molecular techniques.
- Distinct knowledge and experience with cell harvest and tissue culture of joint tissues using defined protocols as well as the development and validation of novel protocols.
- Independent knowledge and competence in molecular analyses and sequencing of tissues including PCR, RNA isolation; preparation of tissues for '-omics' analyses, immunoassay techniques such as ELISA and flow cytometry; and competence with tissue assays including staining and fluorescence for cellular characterization.

$57,500.00 - $80,000.00 Annual Rate
