About the role

Our laboratory in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences focuses on parasitic diseases. We are looking for a Research Specialist to help advance our lab mission to better understand essential behaviors of these complex pathogens at the host interface and to advance human and animal health through new interventions. The overall responsibility of this position will be assisting researchers with laboratory experiments, maintaining biological colonies, and supporting day-to-day laboratory and research operations under moderate supervision. This role involves contributing to ongoing research projects through data collection, record keeping, and adherence to established protocols, while ensuring a well-organized and efficient laboratory environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are essential. Organization and attention to detail are imperative skills for success in this position. This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. May include some weekends. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to multitask and pay attention to detail, as well as strong communication skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences (5%)
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results (30%)
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials (30%)
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders (15%)
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers (15%)
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports (5%)

Required qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in a biomedical research setting
  • Experience working both collaboratively and independently
  • Demonstrated experience with accurate record keeping and compliance

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques
  • Comfortable working with insects and rodents

Education

Bachelor's degree; focus in a biomedical or animal related field preferred.

Compensation

Minimum $45,879. Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
