Research Specialist

About the role

Execute all activities within the Liquid Technology Center (LTC) production facility, including the testing and production of new liquids and ingredients, maintenance of production equipment, cleaning of the facility, calibration and verification of lab equipment, collaboration with internal partners, and maintaining documentation to ensure the safety and compliance of all activities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct production runs for the Liquid Technology Center, overseeing the testing and packaging of all liquids (beer, RTD, LRB, and spirits).
• Work with internal teams to scale up proposed formulations into small-scale batches, providing reports and sensory shipments.
• Maintain and own LTC equipment, lab instruments, master cleaning schedule, production schedule, and ordering/inventory.
• Record and track all liquid movements in the LTC to ensure TTB and BRC compliance, including maintaining SOPs, production records, and critical documentation.
• Support key objectives of the LTC, including expanding capacity, reducing costs, mitigating risks, and transforming the business.
• Collaborate with the brewery and technical teams to implement new recipes or optimize equipment.
• Influence manufacturing, supplier, and vendor decisions related to innovation and productivity.
• Veto supplier qualifications based on audit results severity.
• Develop and implement site-specific policies, protocols, procedures, and innovation commercialization based on project reports.

Key Relationships

• Quality Team: Support audits of current operations, suppliers, and new product innovation with quality data.
• Packaging & Brewing Technical Services: Collaborate on quality innovation, assurance, and audit tasks.
• Supply Chain: Solve production and quality concerns, test samples, validate specifications, and raise potential issues.
• Procurement: Collaborate on technical supplier decisions.
• Product Development: Collaborate on testing and analysis of innovation for sensory, analytical, and can warranty testing.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in a related field (Brewing/Distilling, Engineering, Operations, Food Science, etc.).
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within beer, dairy, or beverage industry.
• Experience operating or managing distilling, brewing, packaging, or other beverage equipment.
• Experience working with lab equipment.
• Knowledge of BRC Audit, GMP, and HACCP principles.

Pay

Competitive annual salary ranging from $63,000 to $79,000 based in Columbia, SC. Bonus plan designed to recognize company performance and individual contributions.
