Responsibilities

  • Mouse husbandry including feeding special diets, weaning and mating.
  • May require giving injections to mice.
  • Routine isolation of nucleic acid from harvested tissues from mice and zebrafish.
  • PCR for genotyping purposes.
  • Husbandry for zebrafish including feeding special diets and mating.
  • Preparation of stock solutions, pouring plates for bacterial studies, inventory keeping of lab supplies.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet laboratory.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience working with laboratory mice or zebrafish, or other wet-lab experience.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • An understanding of basic biological concepts.
