Responsibilities
- Mouse husbandry including feeding special diets, weaning and mating.
- May require giving injections to mice.
- Routine isolation of nucleic acid from harvested tissues from mice and zebrafish.
- PCR for genotyping purposes.
- Husbandry for zebrafish including feeding special diets and mating.
- Preparation of stock solutions, pouring plates for bacterial studies, inventory keeping of lab supplies.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
- Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
- Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet laboratory.
Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience working with laboratory mice or zebrafish, or other wet-lab experience.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
- Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- An understanding of basic biological concepts.
