About the role

The Research Salon Technician supports testing of retail and professional hair care products to aid in formula development, training, and usage guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform services using clinical protocols to support testing of retail and professional products on hair.
  • Shampoo, condition, style, and perform professional services like hair color, texture, and treatments.
  • Execute with precision and speed, completing all testing profiles, applications, evaluations, and service records clearly and accurately.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the work area and salon, adhering to Minnesota Cosmetology State Board Laws and Rules.
  • Monitor and report on panelist issues, escalating concerns to appropriate parties.
  • Support study activities by preparing patch tests, paperwork, inventory tasks, and salon/room preparation.
  • Participate in testing method development and new product launches/reformulations.
  • Collaborate with partners in hair care, marketing, education, and artists to support development, usage guidelines, training, and education techniques.
  • Maintain a professional atmosphere and respond to management requests as necessary.

Requirements

  • Proficient technical skills and experience performing professional hair services.
  • Experience with hair color formulation, especially Aveda Hair Color.
  • Basic understanding of hair color theory and ability to assess natural starting levels and tones.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods to perform professional services in a salon.
  • Excellent customer communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Edge, Outlook, and Forms.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience, preferably in cosmetology.
  • Salon Manager or Cosmetologist Operator License preferred.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $21.00 to $26.00. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.

Schedule

The Research Salon Technician reports on-site 5 days a week.
