This is a 100% Civil Service, short-term position with a duration of 1 year and the possibility of extension as determined by the department. The role is located in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, CFANS, University of Minnesota under the supervision of Dr. Pam Ismail on the St. Paul campus.
About the role
Performs research with minimal direction, solves research-related issues, oversees projects, and directs students in the lab.
Responsibilities
- Execute scientific experiments independently in analytical chemistry involving protein and various metabolites (30%)
- Prepare and run experiments on various instruments and research equipment (30%)
- Operate and maintain lab equipment as needed (10%)
- Keep detailed records of all experiments in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications (5%)
- Collect and summarize data in tables and figures (10%)
- Train researchers as needed on lab equipment, procedures, and analysis (5%)
- Order supplies, maintain inventories and equipment, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory reporting requirements (10%)
Requirements
- BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years
- 1 year of related experience
- Experience in Food Analytical Chemistry
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical tools
- Experience applying knowledge and skills to recurring tasks, with emphasis on precision and timeliness
- Ability to work independently and supervise graduate and undergraduate researchers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various analytical tools, including electrophoresis, nitrogen analyzer, and other chemical composition-related analytical tools
- Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
Pay
Pay range: $27.00 per hour, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (40 hours per week).
