Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; hours may vary. Evening and weekend hours as necessary. Hybrid work eligible subject to University policy.

About the Role

The Research Navigator provides individualized, ongoing guidance, education, and assistance with completing study requirements. Offers additional support, information, and resources tailored to participants’ personal needs.

The University of Alabama (UA) West Alabama Cardiovascular Health (WACH) Program aims to improve heart health in rural communities by addressing social determinants of health and deploying education programming. This position leads recruitment of prenatal and postnatal participants, retention, and data collection, while supervising up to two undergraduate researchers. The Research Navigator maintains a caseload of WACH research study participants and delivers participant support services, including preparation for behavioral assessments and administration of self-completed questionnaires.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, ongoing guidance, education, and assistance to participants completing study requirements.
  • Offer additional support, information, and resources based on participants’ personal needs.
  • Lead recruitment, retention, and data collection for prenatal and postnatal participants in the WACH program.
  • Oversee up to two undergraduate researchers.
  • Maintain a caseload of WACH research study participants.
  • Administer and oversee self-completion of specific questionnaires by participants.
  • Prepare participants for data collection via behavioral assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • At least 19 years of age at time of hire with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report compliant with University policies (applicants under 21 will have driving restrictions).

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Basic proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite) and familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple participant needs simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, social work, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in healthcare, customer service, or social services, particularly in a patient-focused environment.
  • Experience working in large team settings.
