Research Lab Technician II

About the role

The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences seeks a Research Lab Technician II to assist with an ongoing NIH-funded research project investigating the role of noncoding RNAs in tobacco-related diseases.

Responsibilities

• Assist with NIH-funded research on noncoding RNAs in tobacco-related diseases.
• Apply working knowledge and hands‑on experience with routine molecular biology techniques.
• Perform pre‑processing and analysis of ‘omics’ data, including RNA‑seq and miRNA‑seq.
• Utilize laboratory equipment and follow research protocols.
• Provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data using computer analysis techniques.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum education: Associate's degree, specialized/technical training, or combined experience/education as substitute.
• Minimum field of expertise: working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols; knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in molecular biology, computational biology, computer sciences, bioinformatics, or a related discipline.
• Detailed understanding of the regulatory function of noncoding RNAs in controlling gene expression in health and disease states.
• Proficiency in R and/or Python.
• Familiarity with bash/Linux command‑line, cloud cluster computing, and database management.
• Possession of programming skills is highly desirable.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $25.71 – $31.30.
