Schedule

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; required to work some weekends for animal care and to accommodate experiments.

Pay

$21.85 - $32.80 per hour.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Research Laboratory Technician 1 to join our research team. This role supports laboratory experiments, including rodent-based studies, while providing opportunities to develop hands-on skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with handling rodents (mice and rats) for procedures such as injections, basic husbandry, and preparation for surgeries under supervision.
  • Support surgical activities, including preparation of instruments and materials, with an opportunity to learn surgical techniques.
  • Assist in the placement and maintenance of intravenous catheters and vascular access ports under guidance.
  • Prepare drug solutions and assist with dosage calculations following established protocols.
  • Help organize experiment schedules and collaborate with lab members to support workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and assist with data entry and verification.
  • Support lab operations, including stocking supplies, assisting with inventory, and helping maintain equipment.
  • Assist with data collection and preliminary analysis using relevant software packages.
  • Follow established protocols and safety standards to ensure compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of research activities.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Biotechnology or related scientific field of study; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field (or equivalent experience in research, pharmaceutical, or clinical laboratories) preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of rodent handling and general laboratory procedures; willingness and ability to learn surgical techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to data analysis software.
  • Familiarity with research compliance requirements.

Work Environment

  • Research laboratory environment.
  • Frequent exposure to diseases, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a lab environment.
  • Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection).
  • Exposure to glass and other breakable objects.
  • Exposure to animals.
