Research Investigator III

Person hired for this role must sit in the Northwest region. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 1–3 days per week.

About the role

Kaiser Permanente Northwest’s Center for Health Research (CHR) is seeking an experienced Research Investigator III to lead an ongoing program of research on Maternal and Women’s Health. The ideal candidate will have a track record of obtaining and leading extramurally-funded research grants in Maternal and Women’s Health as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, and experience bridging research and clinical practice to conduct pragmatic research that addresses healthcare delivery issues. They will also have a currently funded, programmatic body of work that can be conducted at CHR.

This is a 24-hour-per-week role with benefits, based in Portland, Oregon.

Responsibilities

• Lead a sustained and innovative research program and procure research funding from internal and external sources.
• Manage the implementation of externally- or internally-funded research projects/programs to ensure compliance with award requirements.
• Oversee fiscal management and ensure appropriate use of funds; evaluate projects and forecast workload and costs to determine budgets and staff allocation.
• Promote learning by communicating information and providing advice to drive projects forward; build collaborative, cross-functional relationships.
• Solicit and act on performance feedback; provide actionable feedback to others, including upward feedback to leadership; mentor and coach team members.
• Practice self-leadership; assess and respond to strengths and weaknesses of self and unit/team members.

• Assist in managing research projects by adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and funding agency policies; provide technical leadership and mentorship to ensure correct processes for security, privacy, and safety.
• Lead the identification and development of research methodologies, protocols, and data collection/analysis plans across multiple, large, and/or highly complex studies to ensure quality and scientific integrity; serve as a resource to team members.
• Conduct and/or lead highly complex qualitative and quantitative data collection, cleaning, management, and analysis; provide feedback to maintain data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
• Build effective partnerships with cross-functional research partners to align project plans, coordinate activities, and provide consultation toward achieving project goals.
• Oversee, develop, and monitor budgets, timelines, and deliverables for highly complex and/or large research studies across a research program.
• Contribute to proposal development by leveraging expert knowledge to lead or collaborate on large and/or highly complex proposals with national or global impact, including as Principal or Co-Investigator, from conceptualization to submission; oversee large teams and pre-award activities (e.g., defining and negotiating scope of work and budget).
• Advance knowledge in the scientific community by assisting or leading the interpretation and presentation of highly complex data; lead or co-author technical products, peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, posters, and presentations to disseminate research findings locally, nationally, or internationally.
• Participate in service to the local and scientific community by regularly engaging in activities such as reviewing for scientific journals and grant panels, and participating in committees, conferences, and professional organizations.

Requirements

• Minimum eight (8) years of experience serving as a Principal Investigator designing and conducting research in an externally and/or internally funded research environment.
• Doctoral degree in Health Services, Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, Social/Behavioral Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, or a directly related scientific field related to health research.
• Minimum eight (8) years of experience in a scientific field related to health or health services research and/or evaluation or a directly related field.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications

• Twelve (12) years of experience performing analytical techniques on research project(s).
• Served as an author (lead, co-author, or contributor) on published research products (e.g., journal articles, books, public entity reports, policy briefs, evidence-based reviews, white papers, clinical guidelines).

Pay

The posted pay range is $118,560 – $153,384 per year. Actual base pay is determined at offer and will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate’s years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Schedule

• Part-time, 24 hours per week.
• Shift: Day (working hours start at 08:00 AM and end at 05:00 PM).
• Workdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
