Research Intern - Translational Molecular Pathology

About the Role

The Calin Lab at MD Anderson seeks a Research Intern to develop proficiency in molecular biology techniques related to non-coding RNAs and coding genes. Research focuses on microRNAs (miRNAs) and other non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis. The intern will contribute to the development and testing of non-coding RNA cancer markers and miRNA-based cancer gene therapy.

Responsibilities

• Learn and perform molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis, by processing cell samples for DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and concentration measurements.
• Conduct cell culture work and in vitro assays using human cancer cell lines, including proliferation assays and transfections with plasmid vectors.
• Present and critically evaluate scientific results through discussions with the PI/mentor and participation in routine lab meetings.

Requirements

• Must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained within the past year.
• Previous research experience is required.
• Applicants with a Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., M.B.B.S.), or those enrolled in a degree-granting program are not eligible.
• Applicants in clinical positions, postdoctoral fellowships, or faculty positions do not qualify.
• Research Interns cannot transition to another trainee title upon completion unless enrolling in a degree-seeking program.

Training will be conducted under the supervision of a faculty member/mentor. Offsite work arrangements are subject to approval and may be modified or revoked based on business needs, performance, or regulatory requirements.
