About the Role

As the Research Intern for the Krueger Lab with College of Veterinary Medicine, you will perform research in the neurobiology of sleep, circadian rhythms, feeding, thermoregulation, and related central nervous system functions. Your work includes surgical and behavioral manipulation of experiments, computerized collection and analysis of physiological and behavioral data, and basic tissue sampling procedures. The work in biorhythms sometimes requires non-traditional work hours for tissue collections and other experimental manipulations.

This is a full-time (100% FTE), temporary position expected to end on August 31, 2027. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. This position is overtime eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research in neurobiology of sleep, circadian rhythms, feeding, thermoregulation, and related central nervous system functions
  • Conduct surgical and behavioral manipulation of experiments
  • Computerized collection and analysis of physiological and behavioral data
  • Basic tissue sampling procedures
  • Work non-traditional hours for tissue collections and experimental manipulations as required by biorhythm research

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing work with research, scientific, or clinical research protocols
  • B.A. or B.S. in a science-related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, or Animal Science)
  • Proficient in computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing, and statistical software
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory methods (making solutions, pipetting, operating autoclave and centrifuges)
  • Experience with small laboratory animal handling/research

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of statistics
  • Experience with animal surgical procedures
  • Experience with polysomnographic coding software

Pay

Monthly Salary: $3,379.14 - $3,750. The full salary range reflects placement based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
