About the role
A research Intern Position is available in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. This research internship is based within a clinical research program focused on improving the safety and effectiveness of perioperative GLP-1 receptor agonists. The program supports the design and conduct of clinical trials evaluating evidence-based strategies for managing GLP-1 receptor agonists before and after surgical or invasive procedures. Interns work alongside investigators, research coordinators, and clinical staff to contribute to patient-oriented research.Responsibilities
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.- Develop an understanding of perioperative GLP-1 management principles
- Gain proficiency in clinical research methods and trial operations
- Develop skills in clinical data analysis and scientific communication
Learning Objectives
- Explain the pharmacology of commonly used GLP-1 receptor agonists, and describe factors influencing perioperative interruption and resumption of these drugs.
- Participate in patient screening, data collection, data entry, and protocol adherence activities, while demonstrating an understanding of ethical considerations, informed consent processes, and regulatory requirements in human subjects research.
- Summarize and interpret clinical trial data related to perioperative GLP-1 receptor agonists management, critically evaluate relevant literature, and effectively communicate findings through written reports, presentations, or manuscript contributions.
