An Appointment Stream Research Instructor position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Orlando Schärer within the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

About the role

Research is focused on the interplay of DNA repair pathways and anticancer therapies. The aim is to investigate the mechanisms of action of the antitumor agents trabectedin and lurbinectedin in sarcoma, small cell lung cancer, and additional cancer types with dysregulated transcription. The project involves biochemical, cell biological, and genomic studies of how anticancer agents target specific tumor types. The long-term goal is to leverage mechanistic insights to improve anticancer therapies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research on DNA repair pathways and their role in anticancer therapies.
  • Perform biochemical, cell biological, and genomic studies to elucidate mechanisms of antitumor agents.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data to advance understanding of targeted cancer treatments.

Requirements

  • PhD in biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, or a related discipline.
  • Several years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Experience in studying genome maintenance pathways.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
