Research Field Specialist Intern - Illinois (Summer 2027)

About the role

The research division of Advanced Agrilytics is seeking summer interns in the agronomy field to assist with on‑farm scouting and spatial research in the Corn Belt for the summer of 2027. Interns will engage in a variety of activities based on their primary interests and will gain experience in general agronomy, plant pathology, leadership, and data collection and evaluation. Advanced Agrilytics specializes in spatial agricultural research to deliver performance insights on the interaction between seed, chemical, equipment, and management practices by environment.

Responsibilities

• Scout research trials across diverse areas and environments.
• Implement trials and collect data – work in groups to execute accurate in‑field trial work and plant collections on various research trials.
• Process plant samples and perform subsequent data collection and data entry at research facilities.
• Participate in soil sample collection efforts as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and work independently when required.
• Communicate effectively with growers, agronomists, and other full‑time employees.

Qualifications

• Preferred: degree track in Agriculture or a related Science field.
• Willingness and ability to work under on‑farm and in‑field conditions.
• Understanding of current farming practices is beneficial.
• Task‑ and project‑driven; able to work independently and in group settings.
• Growth mindset with a desire for continuous learning.

Additional Information

• Positions are available at or near three research facilities: Huntington, IN; Champaign, IL; and Ames, IA.
• Housing options can be discussed for interns willing to relocate.
• Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week; additional hours may be required with prior supervisor approval.
• Travel includes day trips as a team and occasional overnight events; all approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.
