RESEARCH FELLOW IN NE & YORKSHIRE GENOMIC MEDICINE SERVICE ALLIANCE

About the role
We are offering a 12-month Clinical Fellowship opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our integrated team. This role is suitable for trainees with an interest in clinical or medical oncology, haematology, or a cancer surgery specialty, with experience supporting research and/or innovation within the NHS. The post holder will gain experience in developing and delivering Genomic Medicine-related research and innovation as an active member of the North East & Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service team. The role is basic hours only, with no on-call duties.

Responsibilities
- Provide clinical input and management of Genomic Medicine Service clinical research and innovation activities to improve patient care.
- Contribute to ongoing and new initiatives in discussion with the Clinical Supervisor and Northeast and Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service R&I leadership.
- Act as a clinical liaison with the Genomic Laboratory Hub scientific team to enable appropriate reporting and interpretation of genomic reports related to R&I.
- Undertake administration tasks, including report writing, submission of articles for publication, and compliance with Trust policies (e.g., intellectual property rights, information governance, financial regulations, equality and diversity, and health and safety).
- Plan, develop, and deliver research and innovation projects under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor.
- Attend relevant research meetings and seminars within the group and appropriate scientific conferences.
- Comply with research and innovation governance policies and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ICH-GCP, HTA).
- Provide advanced training in oncogenomics to trainees and develop clinically relevant online educational resources for the cancer care workforce.
- Perform any other duties as deemed reasonable for the grade of the post, as directed by the Clinical Supervisor.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at the time of application.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
- Clinical experience in a relevant discipline (medical oncology, haematology, or cancer surgery).
- Previous paid NHS work experience (excluding Clinical Access/Attachment or Observership placements).
- Good history and examination skills.
- Able to formulate a working diagnosis and order appropriate investigations.
- Image interpretation relevant to practice.
- Knows when to seek assistance from a senior colleague.
Management and Administration Experience
- Ability to organise and manage R&I projects.
- Ability to run a service and participate in management processes.
- Commitment to professional, managerial, and teaching responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills with patients and colleagues.
- Understanding of Clinical Governance.
Desirable: Proven management and administration ability, understanding of management goals, experience with audit, evidence of leadership/project management, and experience implementing change.
Teaching
- Experience supervising junior staff.
- Ability to teach clinical skills.
