Research Fellow Center for Genomic Medicine
About the Role
The Musolino Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral Research Fellow candidates. The lab focuses on developing and applying innovations in gene therapy technologies for rare vascular conditions. The Research Fellow will contribute to diverse and collaborative research programs, working alongside Principal Investigators, research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and research technicians.
The new hire will be appointed as a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, under the mentorship of Dr. Patricia Musolino.
Responsibilities
- Perform CRISPR-based genome editing using established protocols.
- Conduct molecular genomics procedures (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, library production, RNAseq, sample archiving, tissue culture).
- Design, execute, and interpret research experiments.
- Learn and apply molecular genomics techniques, including single-cell RNAseq (scRNAseq), ATACseq, ChIPseq, HiC, and others.
- Manage cell culture experiments, including checking medium, reagents, and plasticware.
- Maintain mouse colonies and process murine tissues for phenotypic evaluation.
- Perform noninvasive and invasive hemodynamic assessments of mouse models of human disease.
- Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook.
- Collaborate with lab members (e.g., graduate students, postdocs, technicians, staff scientists) while following detailed protocols.
- Assist in training new Research Technicians and Fellows.
- Troubleshoot problems and instruct others in specialized techniques.
- Investigate, create, and develop new methods and technologies for research advancements.
- Prepare written data reports, including methodology, figures, and manuscripts for publication or progress reports.
- Contribute to research presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
- Oversee laboratory technicians, including training and assisting with experimental design and implementation.
- Compose and present sections of research reports.
- Organize and draft materials for research papers, manuscripts, or other documents for publication or presentation.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in a relevant biological field (recent graduates or those expecting to receive their degree soon are encouraged to apply).
- First (or co-first) author of one or more peer-reviewed scientific publications.
- Experience with delivery of genomic therapies such as LNPs and/or genome editing (required).
- Experience in molecular genomic techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, RNAseq, gel electrophoresis).
- Experience in mammalian cell culture (required).
- Familiarity with animal modeling of disease (required).
- Interest in learning and troubleshooting new molecular biology techniques.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise and train staff effectively.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, set deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Ability to function with speed, precision, and an understanding of theory behind protocols and experiments.

Supervisory Responsibility
May oversee Research Assistants, Technicians, Technologists, and Students. No authority to hire, promote, or terminate.
Working Conditions
Work will be performed in the Simches Research Building on the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus in Boston, MA.
Pay
The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $71,750.
