Research Data Specialist II

About the Role

The Research Data Specialist II (RDS II) develops and applies research methodology and techniques in areas where precedents are lacking or limited knowledge exists. This role operates independently, leading major fire and rescue-related projects and designing data schemas and statistics tailored to emergency management contexts.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop data schemas and statistical models specific to fire and rescue emergency management.
• Work independently on major projects or activities as assigned.
• Develop research methodologies for areas with sparse precedent or knowledge.

Working Conditions

• Primarily office-based; this is not a hybrid or telework position.
• May be required to work irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, during emergencies.
• Potential for extensive travel (weeks to months) with little advance notice to support emergency operations.
• May be required to relocate temporarily to emergency sites.
• Designated under the Conflict of Interest Code; must complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience identifying, collecting, storing, and manipulating data related to energy demand, technology, transportation, or economic indicators.
• Effective communication with non-technical teammates in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders on complex research products, methodology, or reports.
• Ability to query, mine, analyze, and manipulate data.
