About the role

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video. This role interacts with content that includes images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals. Hence, it is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure TikTok is prepared to fulfill research data sharing regulatory requirements.
  • Manage research data compliance process including application review.
  • Work cross-functionally to evaluate and improve data sharing tools and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with external stakeholders to understand research requirements and propose responsive solutions.
  • Contribute to advancing TikTok's Trust & Safety Research agenda.
  • Help define TikTok's longer term data sharing and transparency roadmap and work with our partner teams to make product, technical, and privacy decisions.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of research activities including research ethics and data privacy.
  • Experience conducting quantitative or mixed methods original research in an academic, NGO, and/or tech setting.
  • Master's degree with a strong research component; Ability to translate requirements between the academic, regulatory, and tech sectors.
  • Experience building new processes and driving alignment across teams.
  • Proactive and detail oriented; able to interpret and apply guidance from various disciplines to the task at hand.
  • You thrive in fast-paced entrepreneurial environments and are able to deal with rapid changes, high ambiguity and imperfect status quo.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a discipline that includes work with big data and/or social media data.
  • 5+ years of experience in tech, academia, law, or a comparable discipline.
  • Experience with presentations to stakeholders, leading trainings, and/or teaching.
  • Keen interest in and familiarity with the global regulatory environment as it relates to researcher data access.

Job Information

  • Compensation Description (Annually): The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $121600 - $272000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
  • Additional Discretionary Bonuses/Incentives: This role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.
  • Restricted Stock Units: This role may be eligible for Restricted Stock Units.
