Research Coordinator (Berardi, V)
Position Summary
Seeking a highly motivated post-baccalaureate Research Coordinator to join a federally funded clinical research project that seeks to improve children's health by introducing Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology into cessation programs for parents that smoke in the home. Full-time, on-site position at Chapman University (PI: Vincent Berardi) funded through a 5-year NIH R37 MERIT Award. Because we work around participant availability, hours may shift day to day and may include evenings or weekends; flexibility is essential. Ideal for an individual planning to pursue graduate or professional school who wants hands-on experience coordinating a rigorous randomized controlled trial.
Responsibilities
- Conduct participant assessments (surveys, structured interviews) in accordance with study protocols
- Manage participant flow from recruitment through study completion, including scheduling, tracking, and follow-up, and proactively communicate progress and obstacles to the PI
- Support the IoT component of the intervention, including troubleshooting and participant-facing technical assistance
- Assist with data entry, quality checks, and preparation of study materials
- Affiliate with Institutional Review Board (IRB) communication and compliance
- Participate in regular team meetings, including structured one-on-ones with the PI
Requirements
- Minimum 2-3 years of past clinical assistance and/or administrative experience in related field or industry
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to research integrity. Exceptional organizational skills are essential; the successful candidate will be able to manage multiple participants simultaneously, follow protocols precisely, and navigate competing priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work with diverse populations
- To work independently while maintaining clear and consistent communication with the PI
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, social work, or a related field
- Experience with human subjects research or clinical data collection
- Data analytic skills
- Familiarity with mobile health tools, apps, or digital health platforms
- Experience with REDCap, Qualtrics, or similar platforms
- Interest in pursuing graduate or professional training in a health-related field
