Research Computing Support and Applications Internship
Job Description
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking two talented and highly motivated part-time Support and Applications Interns to join Research Computing, a unit within UFIT. The interns will assist the RC Support and Services Team with developing support-focused internal CLI tools, databases, web applications, and APIs, as well as support request triage, application installation, reference data management, and other Tier 1 user support activities on the HiPerGator supercomputer.
The internship location is the New Physics Building on the main campus. Some Key Responsibilities And Characteristics Of This Position Are:
- Development of support-related scripts/tools/databases/web applications
- Installation, troubleshooting, and HPC adaptation of research applications on HiPerGator
- Support service request triage
- Basic HPC user support via the ticketing system and Slack
Key Learning Outcomes
- Programming experience (support tool and web app development)
- Practical understanding of contemporary research computing infrastructure and applications
- HPC application installation skills
- Application troubleshooting and modification
- Identification, documentation, and execution of project tasks and performance objectives

About Research Computing
Research Computing is a unit within UFIT. The unit provides support for research computing needs, including the HiPerGator supercomputer. The unit is led by the RC Support and Services Team.

Expected Salary
$18.00 per hour
Required Qualifications
- MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE
- UF Student Assistant
- This position is open to all students eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
- OPS Intern
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
- The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience, and skills:
- Strong communication skills
- Familiarity with Linux and command-line use
- Research or programming experience in a variety of programming languages; Python knowledge is required
- HiPerGator use experience
