Research Chemist | Remote
Quick Snapshot
Contribute to frontier scientific reasoning models by evaluating research-grade chemistry tasks such as retrosynthesis, mechanism prediction, spectral interpretation, and more. Author and review challenging problems that expose the limits of current models at the working-researcher level.
Part-time engagement with hours up to 20/week, offering flexibility alongside active research commitments. W-2 employment through a staffing partner embedded within a leading lab's extended workforce. Compensation reflects research seniority and credentials within the $80-$110/hr range.
Small, high-caliber cohort collaborate with a focused program team and senior peer contributors. Immediate opening with select recruitment; strong publication records weighted heavily over tenure.
Requirements
- Hold a doctorate or postdoctoral training in chemistry or a related STEM field from a top-tier institution, or demonstrate equivalent research depth as an outstanding senior PhD student or recent graduate.
- Carry first-author or co-first-author publications in leading journals (JACS, Nature Chemistry, Angewandte Chemie, ACS Catalysis, JACS, Organic Letters, or equivalent).
- Demonstrate research credentials through fellowships (NSF GRF, Hertz, Sloan, Marie Curie, NIH F32, or similar), grants held as PI/Co-I, issued patents, or a research spin-out.
- Bring current or recent active research experience as a PhD candidate, postdoc, faculty member, principal scientist, or industry researcher.
- Evaluate model outputs critically, identifying exactly the errors a working PhD chemist would catch immediately.
- Author rigorous, novel chemistry problems spanning organic synthesis, catalysis, computational chemistry, chemical biology, or materials.
- Communicate clearly with a small program team; surface systematic failure modes in model reasoning with precision.
