About the role
Syensqo is seeking an entry-level Research Chemist to join the Analytical Research & Innovation team within the Performance & Care Global Business Unit at our Stamford, CT research center.
Responsibilities
- Perform thermal characterization studies using techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), High-Temperature DSC (HT-DSC), and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
- Generate and interpret analytical data to support research, product development, manufacturing support, and customer-focused investigations.
- Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for new materials and applications.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technical teams to solve complex technical challenges and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Document experimental work in electronic laboratory notebooks and communicate results through technical reports and presentations.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical instrumentation to ensure reliable and high-quality results.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the laboratory while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Continuously expand technical capabilities through exposure to a broad range of analytical techniques and collaborative projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Laboratory experience gained through undergraduate research, internships, co-op programs, or industrial experience.
- Fundamental understanding of chemistry, materials science, or polymer science principles.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to scientific rigor.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe laboratory work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thermal analysis instrumentation, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), High-Temperature DSC, and/or Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
- Experience working with polymers, plastics, specialty chemicals, coatings, personal care ingredients, or related materials.
- Familiarity with material characterization techniques beyond thermal analysis.
- Experience using laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Experience interpreting analytical data and preparing technical reports or presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot laboratory experiments and instrumentation.
