Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare, or a research-related field
  • MUST have 3+ years of experience in clinical research budgeting
  • MUST have experience working with sponsor-funded and grant-funded clinical research
  • MUST have experience with both pre-award and post-award processes
  • MUST have experience in clinical research budget development and negotiation
  • MUST have experience with coverage analysis, research rate setting, and protocol interpretation
  • MUST have experience with billing compliance, medical coding, or research contract management
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Index/Match, etc.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, develop, and draft complex clinical trial budgets for sponsor-funded and grant-funded research
  • Perform pre-award activities, including budget development, cost analysis, and proposal support
  • Manage post-award activities, including budget tracking, reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Review and interpret clinical trial protocols to determine appropriate cost allocation and required resources
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and sponsor guidelines
  • Negotiate budget terms and conditions with pharmaceutical sponsors, cooperative groups, and internal stakeholders
  • Participate in coverage analysis and research rate setting
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with investigators, research coordinators, and finance teams
  • Maintain strong working relationships and deliver a high level of customer service

Position Summary

The Research Budget Analyst plays a critical role in supporting sponsor- and grant-funded research initiatives. In close collaboration with Principal Investigators, research teams, and departmental staff, this position is responsible for the development, analysis, and management of complex clinical trial budgets across the full lifecycle—including both pre-award and post-award activities. This role requires strong analytical expertise, the ability to interpret clinical protocols, and experience negotiating budgets with pharmaceutical sponsors and funding agencies.
