About the role

The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a researcher to conduct studies on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. The successful candidate will perform drug treatments, behavioral tests, and prepare samples for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis. Responsibilities include managing a transgenic mouse colony, performing surgeries, and contributing to manuscript and grant preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models.
  • Perform drug treatment and behavioral tests on mice.
  • Develop hypotheses and test them according to a standardized protocol.
  • Collect and prepare mouse specimens for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis.
  • Perform stereotactic surgery and manage a transgenic mouse colony.
  • Perform various complex procedures such as primary cell culture, histology, and imaging of mouse nervous system tissue.
  • Identify and implement improvements to experimental and analytical pipelines.
  • Prepare and submit research papers.
  • Mentor junior lab members and foster a collaborative, high-performance lab culture.
  • Design research protocols, including procedures for data collection, verification, and management.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field, with experience in research, preferably in clinical trials.
  • Or Bachelor's degree in the same fields, with at least three years of research and/or clinical experience, and supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong detail-oriented and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
  • Willingness to work with research animals.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days (M-F); Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. This position is fully funded through external sources. Recruitment period: Until filled.
