About the Role

The Ergin Lab in the Department of Otolaryngology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Research Associate II to contribute to cutting-edge gene therapy research. The lab focuses on engineering next-generation AAV vectors for targeted gene delivery to cochlear cell populations and developing innovative genetic cargo designs for inherited and acquired forms of hearing loss. This role offers mentorship opportunities for those interested in academic, industry, or entrepreneurial careers.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures, developing technical expertise in one or more research areas.
  • Participates in all aspects of the research process, including investigation, technical testing, validation of results, and reporting findings.
  • Executes a variety of experimental protocols and assists in designing new or unusual techniques.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, troubleshooting unexpected outcomes.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and supports general lab operations.
  • Maintains lab equipment, coordinates its use, and keeps related records.
  • Operates specialized equipment as required by the research area.
  • Assists in preparing data for publication and presentation at scholarly meetings.
  • Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
  • Orients and trains research assistants, lower-level associates, or undergraduate students on lab operations and routine procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least one (1) year of research laboratory experience; two (2) years is highly desired.
  • Experience with mouse breeding, colony management, husbandry, and experimental planning preferred.
  • Familiarity with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and lab organization.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work across disciplines and functional units.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and experience managing multiple trials with strong attention to detail.
