Research Associate I

Responsibilities

• Supporting bench research on Shigella (or other enteric pathogens) subunit or live vaccine candidates.
• Evaluating Shigella vaccines in clinical and pre-clinical studies, including immunizing small animals, collecting samples, and assessing immune responses.
• Assisting in the pre-clinical evaluation of diagnostic devices for detecting Shigella and other enteric pathogens from complex biological matrices.
• Maintaining and operating the lab, including media preparation, glassware cleaning, and hazardous waste management.
• Establishing and developing laboratory procedures and analyzing research data.
• Utilizing professional knowledge in molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, and microbial pathogenesis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline.
• Recent college graduate with exposure to biological sciences related to human infectious diseases.
• Willingness to work with small animals in a lab environment.
• US citizenship (by birth or Naturalization).
• Ability to obtain NACI certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with research equipment such as centrifuges, scales, microscopes, gel electrophoresis systems, cell counters, cell separation devices, and fermenters.
• Familiarity with typical procedures such as aseptic technique, small animal handling, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, protein assays, fermentation, and immunological functional assays.
• Fluency with Windows, Apple operating systems, and Microsoft Office software suite.

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $57,000 to $63,000 annually.
