Research Associate, Cope Lab

About the role

The Dr. Elise Cope’s Lab in the Department of Neuroscience and the Center of Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG) at the University of Virginia seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate how structural plasticity contributes to social memory function in the healthy and diseased brain.

Responsibilities

• Manage and conduct independent research projects
• Interact with other lab members and collaborators
• Present findings at lab meetings and conferences
• Contribute to grant applications and manuscript writing
• Learn and develop new techniques as part of training
• Mentor and teach students

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in neuroscience or a related field by start date
• First author publications
• Experience in conducting laboratory experiments
• Interest and confidence in developing new techniques
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with others

Qualifications

• Experience with mouse handling, stereotaxic surgery, behavior testing, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, and in vivo neural recordings
• Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in experimental design
• High level of motivation and technical capacity
• Strong publication record and presentation history

Skills

• Experience with in vivo neural recordings
• Knowledge of mouse handling and stereotaxic surgery
• Proficiency in behavior testing and immunohistochemistry
• Experience with confocal imaging

Pay
