About the role
The Dr. Elise Cope’s Lab in the Department of Neuroscience and the Center of Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG) at the University of Virginia seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate how structural plasticity contributes to social memory function in the healthy and diseased brain.
Responsibilities
- Manage and conduct independent research projects
- Interact with other lab members and collaborators
- Present findings at lab meetings and conferences
- Contribute to grant applications and manuscript writing
- Learn and develop new techniques as part of training
- Mentor and teach students
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in neuroscience or a related field by start date
- First author publications
- Experience in conducting laboratory experiments
- Interest and confidence in developing new techniques
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
Qualifications
- Experience with mouse handling, stereotaxic surgery, behavior testing, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, and in vivo neural recordings
- Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in experimental design
- High level of motivation and technical capacity
- Strong publication record and presentation history
Skills
- Experience with in vivo neural recordings
- Knowledge of mouse handling and stereotaxic surgery
- Proficiency in behavior testing and immunohistochemistry
- Experience with confocal imaging
