  • Design and build new instrumentation to deliver large (>1 kDa) molecules into the gas phase for attosecond x-ray spectroscopy.

  • Develop new statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to extract information on attosecond electron dynamics from petabyte-scale datasets.

  • Contribute to first-of-their-kind discoveries in attosecond electron dynamics in large molecules.

The Research Associate role is a fixed term staff position. This is a 2-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension. Assignment duration is contingent upon project needs and funding.

To Be Successful In This Position You Will Bring

  • Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or a related field (recently completed or confirmed prior to starting).

  • Strong research background demonstrating the ability to solve complex and lengthy problems.

  • Proficiency in statistical methods and machine learning for data analysis.

  • Experience working with ultrahigh vacuum systems and ultrafast laser systems.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

In Addition, Preferred Requirements Include

  • Prior experience with sample delivery in ultrahigh vacuum environments.

  • Experience developing machine learning algorithms.

The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
