Core Job Summary
The Research Associate 2, contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols.
Core Responsibilities
- Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
- Participates in the publication of significant research results.
- Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
- Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
- Collections, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
- Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
- Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
- Performs calculations to complete research test results.
- Performs photography and dark room processing.
- Participates in training sessions and workshops.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
- Serve as a bridge between computational biology and wet-lab research by analyzing multi-omics datasets (bulk, single-cell, and spatial) from patient tumors and disease models.
- Collaborate with data scientists, bioinformaticians, and cancer biologists to identify gene regulatory networks and investigate mechanisms of tumorigenesis, treatment resistance, and metastasis.
- Analyze high-throughput sequencing datasets (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, Hi-C, and spatial transcriptomics), apply statistical modeling and machine learning, and develop computational workflows using R, Python, and GitHub.
- Contribute to data visualization, interpretation, and manuscript preparation; assist with wet-lab techniques such as library preparation, histology, PCR, flow cytometry, and media preparation; document workflows and results according to institutional and scientific standards; and adapt to evolving project priorities, workflow improvements, and emerging analytical needs.
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
