Research Assoc-Experimental
Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), a Directorate of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, is seeking a Research Associate with a strong experimental background in quantum science, particularly in fields relevant to device applications. The successful candidate will join the Soft X-ray Group in the Materials Sciences Division to expand research into quantum information science (QIS) at SSRL.
About the role
The Research Associate will lead efforts to establish a research program in QIS, addressing challenges through advanced methodological techniques while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration at SLAC and Stanford University. The Soft X-ray Group has established frontier research programs on quantum materials, particularly utilizing resonant X-ray scattering. This role offers opportunities to engage in cutting-edge science, publish lead-author manuscripts, support general user experiments, and develop advanced instruments and experimental capabilities.
This is a fixed-term staff position for a two-year appointment beginning immediately, with the possibility of extension contingent upon project needs and funding. The position requires onsite work at SLAC in Menlo Park, CA.
Responsibilities
- Establish a research program in QIS and relevant materials and applications at SSRL.
- Explore research topics in QIS, with a special emphasis on the application of X-ray techniques.
- Utilize existing soft X-ray beamlines at SSRL, particularly for scattering, to study quantum materials.
- Work with general user groups to support their experiments.
- Develop new experimental capabilities for future science.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in physics, materials science, applied physics, or a related discipline.
- Research experience in materials science, preferably in quantum materials.
- Knowledge and experience with QIS and/or device applications are strongly desired.
- Demonstrated competence in operating and maintaining complex experimental systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in conducting X-ray scattering measurements at synchrotron facilities.
- Experience in handling 2-dimensional materials and heterostructures.
