About the role

The Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia seeks research assistants (RAs) to contribute to long-term, academically-oriented research projects, reports, and publications. The program is structured as a two-year commitment, with most RAs continuing to graduate school or other careers in economics or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Assist economists with statistical and econometric analysis for long-term research projects
  • Help economists prepare briefings on current monetary policy issues
  • Write computer programs using statistical software such as SAS, Stata, R, Python, and Matlab
  • Identify and collect data from academic journals, market sources, and government reports
  • Review, organize, and analyze economic and financial data
  • Write or help prepare reports and presentations in the form of graphs or tables

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in economics, mathematics, or statistics
  • Coursework in econometrics or advanced statistics, preferred
  • Programming experience, preferably in SAS, STATA, R, Python, and Matlab

Skills

Our RAs are expected to have strong analytical skills, proficiency in statistical software, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
