Research Assistant PT Lab
Overview
This is a full-time, one-year limited position. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funding. The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Research Assistant I/II/III/IV. The research assistant position will support ongoing NIH-funded studies investigating mechanisms of alcohol-associated organ injury, with emphasis on autophagy, lysosome biology, and gut-liver interactions. The individual will assist with daily laboratory operations, experimental procedures, data collection, and research activities that help accelerate project completion and support generation of high-quality data for current and future externally funded studies. The individual will work closely with two experienced postdoctoral fellows, a part-time technician, and the Principal Investigator, contributing both technical expertise and scientific insight.
Responsibilities
- Perform core laboratory techniques including: Mammalian cell culture using aseptic techniques, Western blotting, RT-PCR, and immunostaining
- Assist with mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, and basic animal handling
- Generate, document, and analyze experimental data with strong attention to rigor and reproducibility
- Support ongoing projects for postdoctoral fellows and the P
- Maintain laboratory organization, inventory, and compliance with NIH-funded research standards
- Participate actively in lab meetings and scientific discussions
- Contribute intellectually to experimental design and interpretation
- Develop and lead an independent project alongside collaborative work
Qualifications
Level I: Bachelor’s degree in a related field - no experience required.
Level II: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level III: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level IV: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position
Substitutions Allowed For Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
