About the role
The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston is seeking a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor in Tectonics and Structural Geology to pursue opportunities for discoveries that illuminate the multi-scale lithospheric architecture of active data-rich mountain belts, including applications to earthquake hazard assessment. This position will focus on generating multiscale crustal and upper-mantle transects and 3D retrodeformable models of active tectonic regions, integrating upper-crustal geologic, borehole and seismic reflection data with seismicity data, seismic tomography, geophysical transects and geodesy.
Responsibilities
- Generate multiscale crustal and upper-mantle transects of active tectonic regions
- Develop 3D retrodeformable models integrating upper-crustal geologic, borehole, and seismic reflection data
- Integrate seismicity data, seismic tomography, geophysical transects, and geodesy
- Apply research to earthquake hazard assessment in active mountain belts
- Produce effective written and visual communication of research findings
Requirements
- Doctorate degree in Geology or related fields
Skills
- 3D mapping and data integration
- Geophysical processing
- Cross-sectional and map-view restoration
- Effective written and visual communication
