Department of Geological Sciences Assistant Professor

About the role

The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2027. The position requires a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment, sufficient experience to teach Engineering Geology, and experience with or potential to mentor students in a viable research program. Preference will be given to candidates with industry or government experience in applied geosciences.

Responsibilities

• Teach Engineering Geology; a course in their area of expertise such as site investigation or advanced field geology; general education courses such as environmental geology; and other courses as needed.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment.
• Sufficient experience to teach Engineering Geology.
• Experience with or potential to mentor students in a viable research program.

Qualifications

• Strong preference will be given to candidates with industry or government experience in applied geosciences, who can mentor our students in pursuing professional licensure.

Skills

• Experience with or potential to mentor students in a viable research program.
• Experience with geotechnical analysis; site investigation; hazard assessment; civil, mining and environmental projects; shallow imaging for engineering applications; and/or remote sensing.

• Salary is commensurate with experience.

Pay

• Assistant Professor (Range 3) - $6,221 – $13,224
• Associate Professor (Range 4) - $6,825 – $14,523
• Professor (Range 5) - $8,593 – $15,211
