Research Assistant
Description
We're looking for a motivated Research Assistant to join our dedicated Biology team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment where you will directly contribute to preclinical studies and drug development. A Research Assistant will be expected to work primarily in the culturing of mammalian cell lines. This position is further responsible for coordinating with other laboratory personnel and communicating in a clear and concise fashion. This position is expected to plan their work schedule to facilitate current an upcoming experiments. Flexibility to quickly change focus and working well in a team environment are a must.
Overview
Position Type: Part-time (20 – 24 hours/week with potential for transition to Full-time).
Focus: Routine maintenance, expansion, and characterization of mammalian cell lines.
Key Objective: To serve as a reliable hub for the research team, providing high-quality cellular material for downstream experiments.

San Diego, CA. Local candidates preferred; no relocation assistance provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Cell Line Maintenance: Perform aseptic techniques for the routine passage, freezing, and thawing of various mammalian cell lines.
- Specialized Culture: Assist in the handling and expansion of hematological (heme) cell lines, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and primary human cells.
- Quality Control: Conduct regular morphology checks, viability assays, and other necessary testing to ensure culture integrity.
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior Research Associates and Scientists to coordinate cell counts and plating densities required for specific experimental timelines.
- Inventory & Documentation: Maintain meticulous lab notebooks and digital records of passage numbers, cell viability, and batch records.
- Attention to Detail: such as completely reading a job description and sending your resume to the indicated email address.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: B.S. or B.A. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field.
- Experience: 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a wet lab environment (academic or industry).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in aseptic technique and biosafety cabinet (BSC) operation. Experience with suspension and adherent cell cultures. Familiarity with hemocytometers or automated cell counters. Experience with flow cytometry is helpful.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and a team-first mentality are essential for coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
Pay
$25 - $38/hr commensurate with experience.
