Join the Single Cell Genomics Facility at Cincinnati Children's and help support transformative genomic research across a diverse range of scientific disciplines. We are seeking a Research Assistant III or IV to support microbial metagenomics projects involving both wet-lab molecular biology techniques and data analysis. This role offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art genomic technologies while collaborating with investigators and facility scientists on projects that advance our understanding of human health and disease.

About the role

The successful candidate will contribute to DNA and RNA extraction, sample processing, data analysis, and the delivery of genomic services that advance innovative research across the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a mentor to junior staff, provide education, guidance, and work direction; offer input on hiring, professional development, and performance management.
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment; provide Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) training.
  • Maintain optimal protocol and assay accuracy through regular quality and reproducibility checks.
  • Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment; operate laboratory apparatus.
  • Assist in daily laboratory operations, including maintaining supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Oversee compliance issues as requested by the Principal Investigator.
  • Develop, standardize, and verify new laboratory procedures; evaluate innovative techniques.
  • Participate in the development of new assays and testing of new protocols; modify existing procedures as needed.
  • Design and perform experiments, record data, and analyze results using statistical and graphical methods.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Train postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and junior laboratory personnel in techniques and equipment.
  • Contribute to reports, publications, journal articles, and abstracts; participate in laboratory meetings and presentations.
  • Serve as an expert resource by demonstrating advanced competence in specific knowledge and skills; communicate effectively with team members.

Requirements

  • Research Assistant III: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 1 year of directly related experience OR Master's degree in a related field.
  • Research Assistant IV: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3 years of experience in a related discipline OR Master's degree and 2 years of experience.

Pay

Expected starting range:

  • Research Assistant III: $52,624–$62,150.40
  • Research Assistant IV: $56,846.40–$72,488
