Research Assistant III - Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

UTHealth McGovern Medical School, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in Houston, TX is seeking a full-time Research Assistant III to contribute to circadian biology research.

About the role

Under minimal direction of senior research staff, you will conduct and execute complex basic science and translational experiments, assist in interpreting results, and perform omics dataset analysis including RNA sequencing (bulk and single-cell) and other omics data. Additional duties may involve assisting with routine lab tasks such as equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in research activities including basic bench and mouse operations under close supervision.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret various omic data to provide information to principal investigators and researchers.
• Update and maintain accurate notebooks, records, and databases as needed by the research project.
• Assist in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers, and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
• Maintain clean laboratory equipment and work area to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
• Monitor laboratory supplies to ensure sufficient inventory; ensure quality of reagents and other supplies.
• Stay current with new and updated procedures and protocols for the research laboratory; complete required training.
• Participate in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops.
• Provide guidance and training for support staff to ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results.
• Provide updates to Principal Investigator regarding research progress.
• Make independent decisions as required, which may impact the research team or assigned project.
• Order laboratory and other supplies as directed by senior research staff or principal investigators.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required (may substitute with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum).
• Two (2) years of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment (may substitute with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum).
• Bioinformatics background highly preferred.
• Previous experience with basic laboratory operations preferred.

Skills

• Ability to conduct omics dataset analysis, including RNA sequencing (bulk and single-cell).
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate research records and databases.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions impacting research projects.

Physical Requirements
