Responsibilities
- Affords assistance to ongoing research projects as directed.
- Contributes intellectually to current research activities and participates in the design of experiments and new techniques.
- Collects research samples, ensuring specimen integrity and adherence to collection methodologies.
- Analyzes samples and interprets results; compiles information and results into meaningful formats.
- Maintains detailed records of experimental data and outcomes for analysis.
- Aids in laboratory pre-operative surgical setups and assists with surgical procedures involving small and large animals.
- Assists in animal handling and sedation procedures, prepares instruments for surgery, and supports investigators during experimental surgical and postoperative procedures.
- Supports euthanasia and necropsies.
- Performs emergency/critical and post-operative care procedures, including wound management.
- Maintains compliance with emergency and post-operative care protocols and IACUC guidelines.
- Maintains detailed and accurate laboratory records of techniques, procedures, and results for incorporation into research papers.
- Maintains inventory of laboratory and surgical supplies and orders as needed.
- Ensures laboratory and surgical suites are adequately stocked with reagents and supplies and prepares solutions/test reagents for experiments.
- Participates in general lab duties and maintenance, adhering to safety manuals, standard operating procedures, and under direction of senior laboratory staff.
- Maintains detailed and accurate surgical records, including peri-operative and post-operative health records as required by animal protocols and IACUC.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Presents data at laboratory meetings and assists with manuscript drafting for publication and presentation at the discretion of the PI.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in scientific related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Handing experience with small and/or large animal models (mice/rats, swine, non-human primates [NHP], etc.), ability to assist with all surgical procedures and perform some surgical procedures independently, familiarity with routine blood testing, surgical monitoring, and radiographs, ability to work well with others in a team-oriented/goal-oriented environment, ability to communicate effectively and prepare complete and concise reports, ability to follow detailed instructions, good oral/written communication and analytical skills, knowledge of IACUC procedures, AALAS inspections, and animal training, AALAS Certifications are highly desirable.
- Physical Capabilities: Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs. Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Work Environment: Set in an animal facility and laboratory work environment. This position may require working evenings and weekends depending on the workload of the team.
- Compensation: The hourly pay range for this position is $19.33-$25.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
