Research Assistant I - Microbiology

Responsibilities

• Analyze the growth and development of malaria parasites using in vitro cell culture techniques.
• Perform standard molecular biology experiments, including DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid construction and isolation.
• Perform standard immunoassays, such as flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and immunoblotting.
• Isolate human peripheral white blood cell populations for transcript analysis.
• Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results.
• Maintain clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories, and logbooks.
• Perform data entry for research projects and maintain databases.
• Laboratory management, including monitoring and ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Scientific discipline with a strength in molecular or cell biology highly preferred.
• Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Good communication and analytical skills.
• Strong microbiology background preferred.
• Tissue culture experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain a T1/Public Trust Background Check.
