Research Assistant I/II - Houston Psychosis Research Center

Position Summary

The Research Assistant will conduct basic/translational research under general supervision, supporting the Houston Psychosis Research Center within UTHealth Houston's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Responsibilities include handling biological samples, conducting laboratory experiments, organizing and preparing research data, updating records, maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, staying current with procedures, and coordinating with technicians.

Key Accountabilities

• Conducts laboratory experiments and activities to support research objectives.
• Captures, organizes, and prepares research data for principal investigators and other researchers.
• Maintains clean laboratory equipment and work areas to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
• Orders laboratory and other supplies as directed by senior research staff.
• Stays informed about new and updated procedures and protocols for the research laboratory.
• Maintains compliance with required training and participates in continuing education programs.
• Coordinates the work of technicians to ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills

No specific certifications or skills are required. However, candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and equivalent experience.

Minimum Education

A Bachelor's degree is required. Equivalent years of experience may substitute for the educational requirement.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive

This position is security-sensitive. Applicants must be able to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure.

Residency Requirement

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
