About the role

The Research Assistant supports the Johns Hopkins Drug Access and Affordability Initiative, a project within the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The initiative aims to generate evidence and policy recommendations to improve pharmaceutical affordability and access in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Supports literature reviews and policy analysis.
  • Assists with data cleaning and preparation of tables.
  • Leads basic data collection and entry tasks.
  • May lead specific tasks and develop processes for study activities.
  • Conducts literature searches to support faculty research.
  • Designs and formats papers/publications.
  • Aids in writing summaries of research findings for policy briefs and other channels.
  • Supports background research on specialty drugs, biologics, biosimilars, complex generics, PBM formularies, rebates, and prescription drug affordability.
  • Organizes candidate drug pairs, including branded/generic and biologic/biosimilar products.
  • Develops data dictionaries, codebooks, and analytic files using plan sponsor and drug-level utilization and spending data.
  • Cleans, harmonizes, and analyzes prescription drug spending, rebate, utilization, formulary, and cost-sharing data.
  • Performs descriptive analyses comparing originator products with lower-cost generic or biosimilar alternatives.
  • Continues work on community benefit reports by analyzing CHNA data submitted by hospitals using artificial intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Masters Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience in relevant quantitative research and analytics.
  • Familiarity with R, Stata, or similar data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with health policy, pharmaceutical markets, prescription drug spending, PBMs.
