About the role

This paid research opportunity is based at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, within the Department of Chemical and Biological Science and Engineering. The position supports an industry partner developing innovative 3D-printing technologies for ammonium perchlorate-based propellants using novel printer hardware and propellant formulations. A key focus of the research will be identifying and evaluating specialized propellant bonding agents.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting technical literature searches and reviewing relevant research.
  • Performing Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) experiments.
  • Conducting Instron tensile-strength measurements.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and documenting experimental data.
  • Supporting laboratory research and evaluation of potential bonding agents.

Training on all required laboratory instrumentation and experimental techniques will be provided.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in a science-related field.

Prior laboratory or materials-testing experience is helpful but not required.

Pay

Approximately $74,000 annually.
