Research Assistant, Division of Addiction Psychiatry

About the role

The Research Assistant, Division of Addiction Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center works in a dynamic environment focusing on the therapeutic use of cannabis and cannabinoids, risks and benefits of cannabis, and substance use disorder treatments. Opportunities exist for involvement in patient observation and clinical care, with potential for multiple publications and conference presentations.

Responsibilities

• Conducts routine tests following established procedures, including assays, DNA sequencing, tissue culture, protein purification, Southern blotting, PCR analysis, electrophoresis, chromatography.
• Researches and collects basic study data through monitoring devices and maintains daily logs of methodologies and test results.
• With supervision, uses databases to summarize data and interpret results using descriptive statistics and basic hypothesis testing.
• Performs literature searches and library investigations as needed.
• Shows flexibility in performing duties as research projects evolve.
• Attends Medical Center lectures regarding safety requirements and conditions.
• Attends courses, lectures, and conferences to enhance knowledge of research.
• Demonstrates routine laboratory tasks to students and other research personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.

Physical Nature of the Job

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus.

Pay Range

$19.23 – $26.44
