Research Assistant – Chemistry

About the role

The McCarthy lab within the Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) in Utica, NY is seeking a research assistant with experience in synthetic chemistry to support a research program focused on generating materials for drug delivery and molecular imaging applications. These materials will be used across diseases to investigate biology and potentially identify new treatment options.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize compounds in support of our research program
• Generate materials for distribution to ongoing collaborations across the country
• Analyze and identify compounds using modern separation and spectroscopic techniques
• Maintain laboratory equipment

This position will be supervised by both the principal investigator and post-doctoral fellows, with opportunities for the scope to expand beyond the listed roles to encompass other aspects of Institutional Operations.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related discipline
• Experience with multi-step organic syntheses
• Familiarity with purification techniques, particularly HPLC
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Pay

$19.25 per hour
